A study presented this year by Juan Vilar Hernández and Sergio Caño forecasts that 603 Iberian mills could disappear over the next decade, 472 in Spain and 131 in Portugal. Consolidation is real, but throughput is a warning rather than a verdict: the tariff, cost control, liquidity, extraction performance and a loyal supplier base decide which small plants survive.
