Editorial Standards
OliveTerm exists to help professionals read the olive oil market. That only works if the reader can trust what is on the page. These are the rules we hold ourselves to.
What we cover
We cover what moves the market: origin and retail prices, production and stocks, trade flows, regulation, company results and the industry calendar. We do not chase consumer topics, recipes or health claims. If a story does not help a producer, trader, bottler or buyer make a better decision, it does not belong here.
Sourcing
Every price on OliveTerm carries its provenance. Origin prices come from official publications, principally the European Commission's weekly member-state prints, alongside market references such as Poolred, ISMEA and ONH. Where no official print exists, a figure is labelled as an OliveTerm estimate, and the methodology page shows the source and verification date for every series on the board. In articles, claims of fact are attributed to their source. If we cannot source a claim, we do not publish it.
Data and opinion
Data pages report figures without a view. Where OliveTerm takes a position, as in the market outlook, it is presented as the desk's view, with the reasoning and the data behind it on the same page, and a dated record of every change of view. Readers should never have to guess whether they are reading a number or an opinion about a number.
Updates
Market pages update continuously as sources publish. Articles that we keep current are updated in place: same address, with the publication and update dates shown on the page and in its metadata. Older coverage that reflects a past market is left as the record of that moment rather than silently rewritten.
Corrections
When we get a fact or a figure wrong, we correct the page as soon as we know, and material corrections are noted on the page itself. Price data revised by an official source is restated the same way the source restates it. If you believe something we published is wrong, tell us through the contact page and we will check it against the source.
Who writes OliveTerm
OliveTerm publishes as a desk, under institutional authorship, the way a market intelligence service does. The work is written by people who work in and around the olive oil trade. We let the sourcing, the data and the track record on the page make the case, rather than bylines. More on the about page.
