Marketing standard 2026/27 — public consultation closes
A withdrawal mechanism that survives the consultation intact puts a policy floor under a well-supplied market — the clearest new support in the calendar.

The Ministry of Agriculture (MAPA) has put the olive oil marketing standard for the 2026/27 campaign out to public consultation, which closes on 13 August 2026. The draft carries an automatic withdrawal mechanism: if available supply exceeds 120% of the average of the last six campaigns, the Directorate-General for Agricultural Productions and Markets determines the share of production to be withheld from the market.
This is the first self-regulation instrument of its kind for Spanish olive oil, built on Article 167 bis of Regulation (EU) 1308/2013 and Royal Decree 84/2021. For a market carrying a surplus, it is a genuine price catalyst rather than a compliance item — the threshold calculation depends on the new crop estimate and the carry-in, both of which arrive in the weeks that follow.
