Portugal's statistics institute publishes its agricultural forecasts with a 31 October reference date, released in the weeks that follow. The olive chapter is the first official read on the Portuguese crop, and Portugal matters to the Spanish balance out of proportion to its size: it ships more than 110 kt a year into Spain, most of it bulk.
