Extra Virgin Olive Oil Price Per Kg
Understanding EVOO pricing requires distinguishing between several market levels: origin (lagar/mill), bulk export, bottled wholesale, and retail. Each level adds margin and reflects different quality and logistical factors.
Origin Prices by Country (March 2026)
Spain: €4-4.5/kg for standard EVOO; €4.5–€5.5/kg for premium single-estate, organic or DOP-certified oils.
Italy: €7-7.5/kg for bulk EVOO from Puglia; €8-9/kg+ for premium Tuscan or Sicilian DOP oils.
Greece: €4-4.5/kg bulk; dominated by Koroneiki variety from Crete and Peloponnese.
Portugal: €4-4.5/kg at lagar in Alentejo and Trás-os-Montes; DOP Trás-os-Montes commands €4.5-5/kg.
Tunisia: €3-3.5/kg, the most competitively priced bulk EVOO in the Mediterranean.
Bulk vs Bottled Pricing
Bulk EVOO (IBC containers or flexitanks) trades at origin prices above. Add €0.80–€1.50/kg for transport to Northern Europe or North America, plus importer margin of 10–15%.
Retail EVOO in Northern European supermarkets typically trades at 3–4x the origin bulk price, reflecting bottling, branding, and distribution costs.
What Determines the Price Per Kg
The main variables are: acidity level (lower acidity = higher price), harvest timing (early harvest = higher polyphenols = higher price), certification (DOP/IGP adds premium), and provenance (single estate vs blended).
For buyers purchasing more than 5 tonnes, direct mill relationships typically save 15–25% versus broker prices.
