USDA FAS: EU olive oil production update (GAIN)
A USDA balance meaningfully below the EU's own estimates would validate the tight-supply case for the buyers who price off this report.
Neutral if confirmed · the desk's reading
The USDA's agricultural office in Madrid publishes a GAIN report sizing the EU crop once the harvest is underway: the 2023 edition arrived in late December, the 2024 edition in November. It consolidates the national estimates into the balance American importers and the international trade press actually quote.
It moves prices less than the primary releases it draws on, but it is the reference number for the US market (the largest buyer outside the EU), and a materially different USDA read on the Spanish crop tends to echo back into origin sentiment. Dated from the report's November–December window; USDA does not pre-announce GAIN publication dates.
